Bulletin of September 11, 2005
Dear Parishioners, You are wonderful, generous and amazing! Last week’s special collection for Hurricane Relief brought in $49,427.50! Our school children and families also contributed an additional $4,123.68. Donations continue to be brought in or sent directly to relief organizations, our Knights of Columbus will forward all proceeds and donations for today’s Pancake Breakfast to Hurricane Relief and our parish will continue to direct projects and funds in that direction. Catholic Charities USA is helping to provide both immediate and longer term assistance as the communities hardest hit face a very long road to recovery. This weekend’s bulletin flap and a brief explanation at all masses highlights the “JustFaith” process that so many parishioners have found enriching, rewarding and challenging. There will also be a JustFaith information table after Mass. As we remember that the struggle against hunger and famine is not confined to our own county and the Gulf States, “Bread for the World” table is also available after all masses today. Legislation has been recently introduced in both our Senate and House of Representatives calling for a U.S. commitment to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people; it reaffirms a set of international development goals already affirmed (September 2000) by the U.S. and 189 other nations. An information and letter signing table is outside after mass. On Sunday afternoon September 25th we plan a special “Newcomers Mass at 4:00 pm. Any individuals or families who have joined the parish, arrived in the area, or started dropping in to worship with us since January of this year are cordially invited to be with us for Mass, meeting one another and refreshments will be served. You can tell our fairly busy summer is turning into a very busy fall. This week includes the start up of RCIA (if interested in becoming Catholic be sure to join us), a meeting for Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick and Ministry to Nursing Homes, the CYO Advisory Board meeting, our Religious Ed teachers kick off dinner, next Sunday evening’s Youth Mass and start up of the Youth Group for our teens (plus don’t forget to register for Confirmation for seniors and juniors), a thank you Barbecue for the great volunteers who re-landscaped our parish grounds this summer, and lots more. Remember our Daytime Bible Study for both men and women begins Thursday, September 29th. It would help in preparing handouts and providing childcare if you could call the parish house (682-2486) to let us know if you plan to attend; but if you forget – come anyway! Your Pastor,
