Bulletin of September 18, 2005
Dear Parishioners, While some newscasters and media reports have described the Hurricane relief efforts to have “turned the corner”, that is hardly even close to the truth. Now begins the mammoth and tragic task of resettling, feeding, and giving hope to thousands upon thousands whose homes and in some cases families are completely destroyed. There are also reports of overloads of supplies in some cases . . . so we are researching the most effective ways to help and will keep you informed by bulletin insert flyers and announcements . . . stay tuned! In the meantime any donations will be targeted to the most needy and effective place. During this week our Religious Ed Ministry, of which we are so proud, opens its doors: today to three, four and five year olds; on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm to first through fifth graders and their parents – and next Sunday at 9:10 am to all 1st through 5th graders at the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and then during the first week of October – 6th, 7th & 8th graders and older sacraments preparation.. Next Sunday afternoon we host a “Newcomers Mass” for anyone who has begun coming to Christ the King in 2005. Well over 120 families have registered and there are many more who have simply begun to worship with us. All are invited to the newcomers mass and social next Sunday at 4:00 pm. During this week I’ll be in Los Angeles from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday evening. The National Pastoral Life Center is sponsoring a three day gathering of priests, bishops and at least one Cardinal. The title is “Enhancing the Mission – future staffing of parishes symposium: trends and challenges.” I’m one of the keynoters and on several panels. Then on Saturday afternoon I address several hundred laypeople who are elected members of regional pastoral councils from the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Your response to the “JustFaith” presentation last weekend was enthusiastic. Many sought information and answers to their questions; over 30 signed up for future JustFaith groups. Two other great opportunities for growth are the Daytime Bible Study that begins September 29th and the Bereavement Ministry which Fr. Aidan speaks about today. Just call the parish house to “RSVP” or for more information. Your Pastor,
