Bulletin of October 30, 2005
Dear Parishioners, This weekend’s celebration of Halloween (“the Eve of the Holy Day”) reminds us that this Tuesday, November 1st brings us the feast of All Saints Day (traditionally a holy day of obligation, with masses here at Christ the King at 8:00 am, 11:00 am and 7:00 pm) and Wednesday, November 2nd is All Souls Day with a special 11:00 am mass at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. We also include a variety of ways to celebrate our bond and affection with those who have gone before us in death but remain united and alive to us in memories, friendship and faith. Today’s fold-out reprints a letter that was sent to all on our parish mailing list and includes significant ways to mark these days of prayer and remembrance. Please keep in mind next weekend’s 12:15 Bereavement Mass, especially if you have lost a loved one over this past year. A week from Monday, November 7th at 12:15 pm we invite you to our annual remembrance of Msgr. Wade and Margo Schorno at their adjacent gravesites at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. On this Saturday and Sunday, in addition to the Halloween “trick or treating”, we have a special collection which goes directly to the extraordinary work of our St. Vincent de Paul Society; the entire budget for its service to an enormous number of needy families, children and individuals comes from your generosity to just four collections taken up during the year (they occur on the four times that there is a 5th weekend in a given month). This past year’s financial report shows $100,522.68 distributed to the needy who come to our rectory door; to this you can add a very large amount of food staples, warm clothing and furniture to more than 5,284 adults and 5,547 children. All this is made possible by your generosity and the countless volunteer hours spent by your fellow parishioners in our St. Vincent de Paul Conference. Besides today’s collection, it is also a good opportunity to thank the outgoing officers after their years of service. (Bob Van Heel, President; Al Klem, Vice President; Joan Zamolo, Treasurer; and, Mary Wierenga, Judy Klem and Inge Noble, Secretary) and to welcome their successors (Lois Ruff, President; John Correia, Vice President; Tom Bates, Treasurer; and, Kathy Parlier, Secretary). We are also now gathering nominees for the upcoming Parish Council election. Six outgoing members have completed their four year terms and need to be replaced, as well as one member stepping down for personal reasons. This weekend and next, we invite you to submit your own name or that of fellow parishioners who might serve us well as Parish Council members. All nominees will be contacted and invited to a brief information and orientation meeting. After that, each one can make a final decision whether they wish to run in our election that comes up at the end of the month of November. Nomination forms and an information and nominating table are available after mass. Please give serious consideration to nominating yourself or another worthy candidate. Your Pastor,
